Identification Process G/T 2011-2012
1. Identify only those who you can serve.
2. The process would be completed in the spring of grade 2 and again in the spring of grade 6.
3. Students may be screened due to parent or teacher request.
4. Once, it is determined which students entering grade 3 and 7 should be formally included in the identification process, then parent permission is required for testing.
5. At this time, the identification team determines fair and appropriate identification tools.
A. Identify by using rubrics or examples showing longevity of performance.
7. The same process may be used for individual students during grades 3, 4, and 5 on a case-by-case basis; a student may not be discriminated against due to modality preferences (analytic & kinestitic). Analytical learners--also called sequential learners, like to take in information one piece at a time, although they can do it very quickly. Tactile or kinesthetic learners are those who learn through experiencing/doing things. For this reason, tactile learners may become bored more quickly than other students while listening to a class lecture.
8. A student may not be discriminated against due to modality preferences, or if a student has been previously served in a G/T music program in another district.
